The HoHoKus RETS-Nutley School of Business, Medical and Technical Sciences offers two convenient class schedules. Day division classes meet Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:25 a.m. and 4:25 p.m. (an occasional Saturday class may be required). The school year is divided into four 12-week phases. Evening division classes meet Monday through Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. (an occasional Saturday class may be required). The school year is divided into six phases, each lasting approximately eight weeks.

HVAC TECHNOLOGY

This program provides students with the theory and extensive hands-on experience to meet the growing demand for trained and qualified HVAC technicians.
BUSINESS OPERATIONS PROGRAM

This program utilizes up-to-date training methods and equipment to provide students with the skills necessary to work in the modern office or comparable business setting. Emphasis is placed on written, oral and computerized communications, and the operation of related office equipment. Students develop typing and data entry speed, and proficiency is attained in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphing and accounting software on the computer such as Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. The program will prepare students to test for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certifications.
COMPUTER OPERATIONS PROGRAM
This program utilizes up-to-date training methods and equipment to provide students with the necessary skills to obtain employment in positions requiring computer literacy. Students utilize hands-on training in the Windows and Microsoft Office environment, and build their proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, DOS, E-mail and Internet applications.
COMPUTER/ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN PROGRAM
This intensive 12-month program is comprised of approximately 50% theory and 50% hands-on laboratory work. The program covers fundamental electronics, digital and analog circuitry, microprocessors, personal computers and networks. Students receive hands-on training using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, soldering irons, audio generators, logic probes and computer diagnostics equipment. Students also learn to read schematics and wiring diagrams, assemble personal computers, install software and set up a local area network. Troubleshooting electrical components and electronic circuits is emphasized throughout the program. The course of study includes both the fundamentals and advanced theory on electronics, integrated circuits and microprocessing.
COMPUTER/ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN PLUS PROGRAM
This intensive 15-month program prepares students for the A+ Certification examination and is comprised of approximately 50% theory and 50% hands-on laboratory work. The A+ Certification preparation quarter may be taken as a stand-alone 3-month course for those who have already completed HoHoKus Rets's Computer/Electronic Technician or Electronic Engineering Technology programs, or who can demonstrate equivalent training from another institution. The course description for the first four quarters of the program can be found in the Computer/Electronics Technician Program description. The final quarter is theory and lab- based preparation for the CompTIA A+ Certification Exam utilizing lecture, hands-on labs, and sample test questions.
ELECTRONICS AND COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
This is an intensive 18-month program that provides students with the skills they need to obtain entry-level positions in the electronics and computer industries. The program is 50% theory, 50% hands-on lab work, and provides students a solid basis in fundamental electronics as well as preparation for the A+ and Net + computer certification examinations. Students receive hands-on training using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, soldering irons, audio generators, logic probes and computer diagnostics. Troubleshooting electrical components and electronic circuits is emphasized throughout the program. Students also receive hands-on training on test equipment and a background in the fundamentals of digital computers, hardware, software and networking.
MEDICAL ASSISTING WITH CARDIOVASCULAR TECHNOLOGY
This program prepares the student to enter the medical field in the capacity of medical assistant, medical office manager, medical secretary, medical transcriptionist, office sonographer, insurance specialist or coding technician. Students will learn both the back office clinical and front office administrative skills that today's medical profession demands such as operating Microsoft Windows computer software, patient billing, scheduling, record keeping, medical transcription, completing insurance forms and coding. Students will develop clinical skills including checking vital signs, venipuncture, charting, EKGs, blood testing, injections, urinalysis, hospital care, CPR and First Aid. Upon successful completion of the program, will have obtained CPR, First Aid, and OSHA (Bloodborne Pathogens Regulations) certifications and will be eligible to register for additional certifications.

This program prepares students for entry-level positions such as medical assistants, medical office managers, medical secretaries, medical receptionists, or medical transcriptionists.  Students will learn the back office clinical and front office administrative skills that today’s medical profession demands including operating Microsoft Windows computer software, patient billing, scheduling, record keeping, medical transcription, keyboarding speed and accuracy, completing insurance forms and coding.  Students will develop clinical skills including checking vital signs, venipuncture, charting, EKGs, blood testing, injections, urinalysis, hospital care, CPR and First Aid.  Upon successful completion of the program, students will have obtained CPR, First Aid, and OSHA certifications, and have the ability to register for further certification.

MEDICAL BILLING & CODING

This program will prepare students for entry-level positions such as coders, medical office managers, medical secretaries, medical receptionists or medical transcriptionists. Students will learn administrative skills, coding skills and medical billing rules and regulations used in today s medical professions. Emphasis is placed on anatomy, physiology and medical terminology to increase proficiency in the Billing and Coding fields. Students will also develop proficiency with administrative tasks including operating Microsoft Windows computer software, patient billing, scheduling, record keeping, medical transcription, completing insurance forms and coding. Upon successful completion of the program students will have the opportunity to obtain Insurance Billing and Coding Specialist certification through NCCT.
