RETS INSTUTUTE HAS A NEW NAME

Dear RETS graduates and current students:
Welcome to the HoHoKus School family! If you have recently passed by our Nutley campus you may have noticed our new name. Yes, back in August we received final approval from our accrediting agencies, State and Federal governments to change our name to HoHoKus-RETS/Nutley School of Business, Medical and Technical Sciences. This allows better recognition with the other four HoHoKus School campuses for our graduates. Some exciting changes have taken place in Nutley over the last year that I would like to share with you.

In electronics, our Director of Education, Steve Behre has been working diligently to improve and upgrade every aspect of the technology programs. New Fiber Optics courses are offered in just five weeks of evening training and our A+ certification courses take as little as twelve weeks (day or evening). Early in 2006 we expect to begin offering Wireless Technology courses to our grads also.

Our medical assisting programs, under the direction of lead instructor, Dr. Sam Faragalla continue to grow and prosper. Our latest approval allows an add-on of cardiovascular technology to our medical assisting curriculum. Graduates of that program can seek employment immediately or accept full-transferability to our Ramsey campus to complete the ultrasound technology portion. In addition, a full medical billing and coding course is in full swing. Graduates may come back for either additional skill.

Our affiliation with Microsoft continues to help our business grads. As a graduate, you may return and test at all levels of the MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) exams. You will need to schedule an appointment and pay a small fee for this service.

HoHoKus School allows all graduates’ immediate families access to a family scholarship. Husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, mothers or fathers of our grads are able to obtain a full ten percent discount on their schooling.

Quite a savings

DESPITE APPARENT ECONOMIC SLOWDOWN HoHoKus RETS JOB FAIRS DRAW MANY RECRUITERS

HoHoKus RETS, a Nutley, New Jersey post-secondary technical school that provides training in Business, Computers, and Electronics hosted two Career Fairs this spring that drew a large number of high-tech employers. On March 23rd and May 18th thirty-eight companies sent more than 60 recruiters to the school seeking qualified staff for an array of technical and office positions.

The Career Fairs are annual events at HoHoKus RETS, and were attended by over 250 students and alumni of the school. According to Laurie Reeves, HoHoKus RETS's Career Planning and Placement Director, both events were enormously successful. "Despite the evident slowdown in the economy, there are still many outstanding opportunities for people with the type of specialized training that we provide. Many job interviews have already taken place following the Career Fairs, and I expect at least 50 job placements for our students as a result of the events."

Companies attending represented the computer, medical, communications, transportation, manufacturing, financial, aerospace, security, and broadcast industries. Electronics and Computer Technology students were recruited for jobs designing, assembling, installing, maintaining and repairing technical equipment. Business and Computer Operations students were recruited for administrative, secretarial, customer service, accounting and bookkeeping positions. Tony Rodriguez of HoHoKus RETS' Career Planning and Placement Office addressed the diversity of participants and jobs saying, "HoHoKus RETS training gives students a foundation in their chosen field. Once on the job, a graduate will learn the applications of their training specific to the company that has hired them. It's a good marriage - we can provide employers with the entry-level staff they need, and employers can give our graduates specializations that will afford them promising careers."

Companies that participated included Sony Electronics, Canon Business Solutions, Pitney Bowes, Verizon, Comcast of New Jersey, AT&T Wireless, Quest Diagnostics, Telemetrics, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Audio Visual Associates, DPC Cirrus, Medrad, Integrated Access Systems, State Farm Insurance, BAE Systems, the U.S. Postal Service, New Jersey Transit, General Calibration, Superior Office Systems, Money Marketing, Siemens Cerberus Division, Gateway Security, Apple One, Ricoh Corp., Nortronics, Simplex, Qualex, Inc., and Allied Manufacturing.

HoHoKus RETS LAUNCHES A+ TRAINING / RECEIVES RECOMMENDATION FOR COLLEGE CREDIT TRANSFER

HoHoKus RETS in Nutley, New Jersey is well-known for training computer and electronic technicians. Recently, the school expanded its curriculum, offering a course to prepare students for the A+ Certification examination. A+ certification is in high demand in the computer industry job market. The first group of students in A+ training are scheduled to graduate in January 2001.

In addition to the school's course expansion, the American Council on Education (ACE) recently sent an independent faculty review team to HoHoKus RETS to evaluate the school's electronic courses, and found them to be equivalent to college level training. ACE is therefore continuing to formally recommend HoHoKus RETS courses for college credit. This means that students graduating from HoHoKus RETS will have the ability to continue their education with a recommendation of up to 55 college credits for transfer from HoHoKus RETS.

The ACE recommendation will link HoHoKus RETS students with 38 New Jersey Colleges and over 1500 Colleges and Universities nationwide. The actual number of credits a college or university will accept is entirely up to the discretion of the receiving institution, however, ACE is recommending HoHoKus RETS' 18-month Electronics Engineering Technology course to qualify for 55 college credits, and the 12-month Computer Electronic Technician course for 32 credits. College credit recommendation extends to any alumni of HoHoKus RETS who has graduated in the past ten years.

"Excellent placement rates, small classes, and now the opportunity for a future degree - our graduates will have all of their bases covered," said Martin Klangasky, director of the school. "Our educational delivery system has always been quite strong, and the ACE approval recognizes our education department's hard work and dedication." he added.

HoHoKus RETS has been in operation for over 40 years. The school specializes in electronics technology, computer repair, and business operations training in programs of nine to 18 months. For more information, call HoHoKus RETS at (973) 661-0600.

HoHoKus RETS – WHAT'S IN A NAME?

HoHoKus RETS in Nutley, New Jersey is a post-secondary proprietary school specializing in training students for technical careers in the computer, electronics, and office administration fields.

Back in 1957, the school began as a small storefront on Washington Street in Newark. It opened its doors as the Radio Electronic Television School (RETS). It was one of 20 schools which operated under the HoHoKus RETS name in major cities such as Boston, Detroit, Baltimore, and Philadelphia. Back then, students signed up to learn about the newest technologies: black and white, and in the 1960's, color television!

Since those early beginnings, HoHoKus RETS has graduated well over 10,000 students, providing skilled employees for hundreds of companies. Back in the Fifties, the school trained people for radio and TV repair jobs. Today, HoHoKus RETS trains people for careers in electronics and computer repair, sending technicians out to build, install, service, support, and repair a wide array of technical equipment.

In the late 1980's, HoHoKus RETS began the Business Operations program training students for positions in the secretarial, administrative, computer operation, and customer service fields.

Most recently, HoHoKus RETS has added a course to prepare students for A+ Certification in the computer field. And more changes are certain to occur as technologies keep advancing. HoHoKus RETS is certainly more than its original name suggests. To find out more about the school or its programs, log onto www.hohokusrets.com, or call the school directly at (973) 661-0600.
