Medical Assisting with Cardiovascular TechnologyThe objective of the Medical Assisting with Cardiovascular Technology Program is to prepare the student to enter the medical field in the capacity of medical assistant, medical office manager, medical secretary, medical transcriptionist, office sonographer, insurance specialist, or coding technician. Other opportunities exist in the hospital setting as a patient care technician, EKG evaluator, unit secretary, ward clerk, entry level medical records technician, non-invasive cardiac tech, or beginning cardiovascular technician. Medical Assisting with cardiovascular technology is one of the fastest-growing occupations in today's economy.

Students will learn both the back-office clinical and front office administrative skills that today's medical profession demands. Emphasis is placed on both patient relations and professional standards for workers in the healthcare industry. In an effort to keep pace with the technological changes occurring in the medical field, skilled Instructors use up-to-date training methods and equipment. Students will develop clinical skills including checking vital signs, venipuncture, charting, EKGs, blood testing, injections, urinalysis, hospital care, CPR and First Aid. Students will also develop proficiency with administrative tasks including operating Microsoft Windows computer software, patient billing, scheduling, record keeping, medical transcription, completing insurance forms and coding. In addition to all of the above skills, students learn with a hands-on approach basic ultrasound skills, EKG interpretation, holter monitoring and cardiac stress tests. Major equipment students will use in the program includes Ultra-mark 9 Ultrasound Machine, Autoclave, Blood Pressure Machine (Sphygmomanometer), Clinitek 50 Urine Chemistry Analyzer, EKG Machine, Glucometer, Hemocue Machine, Holter Monitor Equipment, Ishihara Charts, Reflotron, Skeleton, Stethoscopes, and Stress Test Machine.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded a diploma from HoHoKus School-RETS/Nutley, and will have obtained CPR, First Aid, and OSHA (Bloodborne Pathogens Regulations) certifications. In addition, graduates will be eligible to use their HoHoKus RETS-Nutley certificate to register and test for Electrocardiography (ECG) certification, Phlebotomy certification, Medical Assistant (CMA) certification, and Insurance & Coding Specialist certification through NCCT, as well as RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) certification through the AMT (American Medical Technologists). Graduates are also able to sit for (CCT) Certified Cardiographic Technician exam and the science portion of the (RCS) Registered Cardiac Sonographer exam.

A large portion of courses are transferable to HoHoKus School in Ramsey, New Jersey, if a student wishes to pursue further studies in sonography or licensed practical nursing. Transfer is also available for licensed practical nursing at the HoHoKus Hackensack School in Hackensack, New Jersey. Most courses within the program have been evaluated by the American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE/CCRS) which has determined that the courses are equivalent to or similar to those taught at college level, awarding up to 17 credits for completion of the course.
