TECHNICIAN PROGRAM
12 Months
960 Clock Hours
60.0 Credit Units
The Computer / Electronics Technician Program was developed to meet the growing need for trained personnel to fill entry-level positions in the computer industry and electronics fields. It is an intensive 12 month training program comprised of approximately 50% theory and 50% hands-on laboratory work.
The course covers fundamental electronics, digital and analog circuitry, microprocessors, personal computers and networks. Students receive hands-on training using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, soldering irons, audio generators, logic probes and computer diagnostics equipment. They learn to read schematics and wiring diagrams. They assemble personal computers, install software, and set up a local area network. Troubleshooting electrical components and electronic circuits is emphasized throughout the program. The course of study includes both the fundamentals and advanced theory of electronics, integrated circuits and microprocessing. This is a practical course where theory and mathematics are confined to what is actually required to do the job.
Graduates of the program go on to work in the assembly, calibration, installation, troubleshooting and repair of a wide variety of electronics equipment including computers, networks, office machines, medical instrumentation, industrial machinery, consumer electronics and communications products.
Upon successful completion of the 12-month program, students are awarded a diploma. In addition, the program has been evaluated by the American Council on Education's (ACE) College Credit Recommendation Service which has determined that courses are equivalent to or similar to those taught at the college level, awarding up to 32 recommended college credits for transfer upon completion of the program.
