Administrative office professionals are an integral part of any business or organization, and therefore in high demand in our modern economy. Numerous career opportunities across a wide spectrum of industries exist for people with the right skills.
HoHoKus School-RETS/Nutley's Business Operations Program provides students with the skills that will enable them to work in the modern office or comparable business setting. In an effort to keep pace with the technological changes occurring in the office administration field, skilled instructors use up-to-date training methods and equipment to provide the necessary technical education. Emphasis is placed on written, oral, and computerized communications, and the operation of related office equipment. Students will use personal computers with color displays, desk jet and laser printers to produce their work. Students develop typing and data entry speed and accuracy on the keyboard and 10-key pad. Proficiency is attained in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphing and accounting software on the computer. Students receive hands-on training using Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. The program will prepare students to test for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certifications.
The skills learned in this program will equip students to obtain positions such as entry-level administrative assistant, and general clerical positions in business, industry, or government. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded a certificate.
In addition, certain courses have been evaluated by the American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE/CCRS) who determined that these courses are equivalent to or similar to those taught at the college level, recommending up to 7 college credits for transfer upon successful completion of these courses.
The Business Operations program is an intensive 9 month (day classes) or 12 month (night classes) course that gives students a broad base of skills including the following:

Typing and data entry, stressing speed and accuracy on the keyboard and 10-key pad

Computer literacy - students gain proficiency in Microsoft Windows, DOS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Computerized Accounting

Use of office equipment including copiers, faxes, Dictaphones, electronic calculators, computers and printers
- Business English with emphasis on writing, format and grammar
- Business Presentation skills
- Bookkeeping, accounting principles and procedures, and business math
The skills learned in this program will equip students to obtain entry-level positions in business, industry, or government. Job titles for graduates include administrative assistant, secretary, receptionist, accounting clerk, data entry clerk, and customer service representative.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded a certificate.
In addition, certain courses have been evaluated by the American Council on Education's (ACE) College Credit Recommendation Service which determined that these courses are equivalent to or similar to those taught at the college level, awarding up to 8 recommended college credits for successful completion of these courses.
